Who we are

The Shore Kirk is the Church of Scotland congregation for Kilmun, Strone and Ardentinny, on the Cowal peninsula in Argyll.

A parish church for the whole shore

Our parish stretches along the north shore of the Holy Loch and up the west side of Loch Long, taking in the villages of Kilmun, Strone, Blairmore and Ardentinny. It is a beautiful, scattered and close-knit place, and our church has been part of its life for generations.

Our congregation worships at St Columba's Church on Shore Road, Strone, known locally as the Shore Kirk. Since 2017 the congregations of Strone, Kilmun (St Munn's) and Ardentinny have been linked, and today we are one church family serving the whole area.

As a registered charity our purpose is the advancement of religion. In practice that means worship, care for one another, and being a good neighbour to everyone who lives in or visits the parish.

What we do

Everything below is paid for by the generosity of members, visitors and, now, lottery players.

Reaching out

We reach out across the parish and run initiatives in the local community, working alongside other groups on the shore.

Hall and kitchen

We have upgraded our hall and kitchen to give local groups a warm, welcoming and accessible place to meet.

Pastoral visiting

Members of the church are visited at home, in hospital and in care, and Christmas cards are circulated throughout the parish.

Sunday worship

Regular Sunday services are held every week in St Columba's Church, Strone. Everyone is welcome.

Services and groups

Sunday worship

Every Sunday at 10.30am in St Columba's Church, Shore Road, Strone PA23 8TB. Services last about an hour and are followed by tea and coffee. The church has level access, a hearing induction loop and an accessible toilet.

The church is open daily

St Columba's is open every day for quiet reflection and for visitors who would like to see the building and its stained glass.
